Andrew D. Arnold
From History of Frederick County. p. 1083:
Andrew D. Arnold, of the “Wanderer’s Return Farm,” who is the second son of David Arnold, was born on his father’s farm, near Burkittsville, September 25, 1866. (See sketch of David Arnold.)
During his early youth Mr. Arnold’s time was divided between attendance at the schools of Burkittsville, and such work as he was able to do upon his father’s farm. As he and his elder brother used to feed the cattle during the winter, school engagements often had to give way to home duties. He thus became practically acquainted, early in life, with the details of farming; and three years before his marriage, he took possession of the farm he now occupies, which he purchased from his father in 1895. The “Wanderer’s Return” is a tract of 315 acres, lying along the road between Petersville and Catoctin Station. In 1892, Mr. David Arnold had built a fine new house upon this farm; the barn, also, was built by him. it is said that this farm, in the early days of the Republic, was once visited by Gen. Washington, its proprietor at that time being Thomas Hawkins, a government surveyor.
Andrew D. Arnold was married, April 17, 1894, to Miss Amanda Catherine Young, daughter of Jacob and Charlotte Elizabeth Young. Their children are: 1. David Jacob, born July 27, 1896; 2, Mary Elizabeth, born April 24, 1899; 3, John Thomas, born July 15, 1901; 4, Amanda Catherine, born April 23, 1905; 5, Andrew Daniel, born September 8, 1907; 6, Maurice Lenord, born August 30, 1909.
Mr. Arnold is an adherent, in politics, of the Democratic party.
