From History of Frederick County. p. 1078:
Charles Joseph Arnold, owner of Henrico farm, Petersville District, Frederick County, Md., son of David and Mary Ann (Wiener) Arnold, was born at the Arnold homestead, Burkittsville, Md., March 8, 1872.
(For the family history, see biography of his father, David Arnold which appears in this volume.)
Charles Joseph Arnold attended the public schools of Burkittsville until he reached his eighteenth year. He grew up on his father’s farm taking his share of farm labor, and gaining a practical knowledge that fitted him for a successful career as an agriculturist. In April, 1899. Mr. Arnold left home and rented a farm in the lower end of Petersville District, where he remained for one year. He then rented the old Governor Lee place situated in the Maryland Tract, Petersville District, which he cultivated so successfully that at the end of eight years, he was in a position to purchase his present home. His homestead, Henrico farm, which he bought from Mrs. Charles Hilleary, through Cramer & Stauffer, real estate agents, had been rented land for fifty years. The soil was impoverished, and the whole place was in a neglected condition. It has however amply repaid Mr. Arnold’s skillful management. Mr. Arnold began business without one dollar in money. Patience, industry, and economy have brought him a rich reward. He is a Democrat, interested in county affairs.
Charles Joseph Arnold was married, September 15, 1897, to Mary Louisa, daughter of Edward and Gertrude (Marlowe) Orrison. Mrs. Arnold’s parents lived just opposite her new home. The children of Charles Joseph and Mary Louisa (Orrison) Arnold are: 1, Catherine Gertrude; 2. Charles Graham. Mr. Arnold is a member of the Roman Catholic Church; his wife is an Episcopalian.
