George Marshall Wachter

From History of Frederick County. p. 1132:

George Marshall Wachter, one of the prominent and esteemed agriculturists of Johnsville District, is the tenant on the George P. Buckey farm, situated on the road from Union Bridge to Johnsville. He was born in Tuscarora District, Frederick County, January 3, 1882. He is a son of Thomas M. and Cynthia A. C. (Measell) Wachter.

The grandfather of George M. Wachter was Joshua Wachter, who was descended from one of the long settled agricultural families of Frederick County of German origin. He spent his life in the vicinity of Zion Church, in Tuscarora District, Frederick County. The name of his wife is not known. He was the father of seven children.

Thomas M. Wachter, son of Joshua Wachter, was born in Tuscarora District, Frederick County, about 1839. He followed agricultural pursuits during his active life. He is now living in retirement in Frederick City. He served through the Civil War as a member of Cole’s Cavalry. The name of his wife is Cynthia A. C. Measell.

George Marshall Wachter, son of Thomas M. and Cynthia A. C. (Measell) Wachter, was educated in the schools at Bloomfield and Lewistown. Until two years after his marriage he was in the employ of his father. In the spring of 1904, he began farming on his own account on Mrs. John Eyler’s farm, at Detour, Carroll County, where he remained for two years. In the spring of 1906, he settled on his present place, which contains 132 acres. He is an up-to-date and progressive farmer, and is one of the more prominent of the younger agriculturists of Johnsville District. He has many good traits of character and is highly esteemed by those with whom he has come in contact. He is a member of Utica Mills Lutheran Church.

Mr. Wachter was married January 16, 1902, to Hattie Anne Estella Schaeffer, daughter of Marshall A. and Elizabeth (Freshbur) Schaeffer, of Lewistown District. She is also connected with the Lutheran Church at Utica Mills. They are the parents of three children: Hazel Marie, born April 25, 1903; George Reginald, born December 13, 1905; and Thomas Marshall, born September 6, 1908.
