From History of Frederick County. p. 1053:

John H. Bohn, a well-known farmer of Woodville District, Frederick County, Md., son of Joseph and Sidney (Ecker) Bohn, was born at Glisan’s Mill, on the Linganore, Woodville District, Frederick County, Md., January 8, 1865.

Michael Bohn. grandfather of J. H. Bohn, was born and passed the greater part of his life in farming in Linganore District, Frederick County, Md., where he cultivated rented land for twenty-two years. Michael Bohn was married to Annie Saylor. Their children are: 1, Michael; 2, Daniel; 3, John; 4, Hamilton; 5, Thomas; 6, Saylor; 7, Solomon; 8, Annie (Mrs. Scott McAlister) ; 9, Ida, (Mrs. Scott Manard) 10, Lavinia (Mrs. Wash. Norris). Mr. Bohn died in Frederick City, Md.

Mr. Bohn’s father, Jacob Bohn, was born in Frederick County, Md., on a farm two miles below the village of Liberty, on the Linganore. He was educated in the comon schools of the county, and learned milling, and with his brother- in-law, Scott McAlister, owned the mill now known as Glisan’s Mill, and the farm of 125 acres surrounding the mill property. About 18—, the partnership was dissolved, and the mill was sold. Mr. Bohn then removed to McKeesport, Pa., and found employment in the steel mills there. He began by pushing the wheel-barrow and worked his way up until he was made overseer of the mill. He also patented a contrivance for steel cars on which he draws a large royalty, and has now retired from active business life. Jacob Bohn was married to Sidney, daughter of Samuel Ecker, of Linganore. Their children are: 1, Derward, married Laura Kline, died aged twenty-five; 2, Ora (Mrs. John C. Bohn), of Waynesboro, Pa..; 3, John H.; 4, James, died aged twenty-one; 5, Harvey, a farmer of Woodsboro District, married Elsie Zimmerman; 6, Ernest, of Ladiesburg, Frederick County, married Ida Pittinger; William, died aged six. Mrs. Bohn died in the same house in which she had passed her whole life, aged thirty-three. After he settled in McKeesport, Mr. Bohn was married a second time and has one child.

John H. Bohn grew up in Johnsville District, Frederick County, Md., in the home of his uncle, Daniel Bohn, with whom he remained from his sixth to bis fifteenth year. He went to the school in Johnsville under Emma Stoner and Thomas Sidwell. He also attended the Fountain and the Hopewell schools,, going a part of each year until he was sixteen. He was put to work at twelve and by the time he was sixteen, he was earning wages, working for the neighboring farmers. When he reached his twenty-third year, Mr. Bohn began farming for himself on the Albert Jones farm which he rented for three years. He then removed to the William Harn farm, and, after cultivating that land for three years, bought a farm of 115 acres near Harrisville, Md. After cultivating and improving this property for a year and a-half, Mr. Bohn sold it, and bought a place of 92 3-4 acres, near Woodville, Md. In the spring of 1908, he rented this land, and removed to the farm which he now occupies, which consists of 262 1-2 acres of arable land. Mr. Bohn likes to do business on a large scale and, for that reason, rents his small place that he may have more room to exercise his untiring energies. He is an intelligent, progressive farmer, an energetic, wide-awake business man, a clever, well-informed gentleman, and a good conversationalist. Mr. Bohn is particularly interested in fine stock. “Joe,” his eight-year old Kentucky bred horse, took the blue ribbon at the Mount Airy horse show. He is a single foot racker, of great speed, beautiful, kind and shows almost human intelligence. When asked for a kiss, he- will give it as gently as a child, will give his “paw” and do any other tricks. “George,” a beautiful bay, of 1000 pounds, of the “Norfolk Orange Blossom” stock, bred for speed, is very swift, and is entitled to be registered. Mr. Bohn also owns a fine herd of cattle numbering twenty-six, of mixed breeds, Holstein, Jersey and Durham. Mr Bohn votes with the Prohibition party. He is a member of the “Woodmen,” of Mount Airy, and of the I. O. O. F., of the same place.

John H. Bohn was married in 1888, to Susie E., daughter of Andrew and Olivia (Cassell) Alexander. Their children are: 1, Shirley Wilson, born in 1888, at home; 1, Olivia E., (Mrs. Harry Wilson), born in 1892; 3, Wilbur A., born in 1896, at home; 4, John A., born in 1899; 5, Ruby F., born in 1892, died aged 7 years. Mr. Bohn and his wife are members of Prospect Methodist Episcopal Church. Mrs. Bohn is an active worker in the church, a devout Christian, and a Sunday School teacher.
