John H. Frazier

John H. Frazier, a well-known citizen of Frederick City, was born in Knoxville, Frederick County, Md., on April 30, 1874. He is a son of George W. and Rebecca (Donaldson) Frazier, deceased.
George W. Frazier was descended from an old Frederick County family. He was for many years in the employ of the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad. In politics, he is a supporter of the Democratic party, and in religion, he held membership in the Episcopal Church. Mr. Frazier was married to Rebecca Donaldson. They were the parents of five children: Etta, married George Cummings, of Knoxville, Frederick County, Md., deceased; Walter, deceased; John H.,; George Edward, who lives in Frederick, and Mary, the wife, of Frank Smith, Chicago.
John H. Frazier, son of George W. and Rebecca (Donaldson) Frazier. was only eleven years old when he came to Frederick City to make his home with his uncle, Edward Frazier. In the public schools of that place and St. John’s College he received his education. While a boy, he was engaged for several years as a news carrier for Ed. Keefer, and in the grocery store of H. E. Krise of Frederick.
On July 7, 1895, Mr. Frazier embarked in the saloon business at the corner of Market and All Saints’ streets. On May 1, 1896, he purchased the business of M. E. Bartgis at his present stand, Nos. 58-60 South Market street. Here he does a large business, and also conducts an elegant cafe. In 1908, Mr. Frazier made extensive improvements, making his present property a three-story brick building, and adding two bowling alleys, not surpassed by any in Western Maryland.
In politics, Mr. Frazier is an adherent of Democratic principles. Fraternally, he is a member of Frederick Lodge of Eagles, No. 1067; of the Heptasophs, and of the Chippewa Tribe, No. 19, Improved Order of Red Men, and Owls. He is also a member of the Young Men’s Christian Association. In religion, he is connected with the Episcopal Church.
Mr. Frazier was married June 27, 1895, to Mary A. Finenran, of Baltimore, Md. They are the parents of four children: Marie Aileen, Estella V., Louisa S., and John H., Jr. Mr. Frazier has been first vice-president of the United Fire Company, of Frederick City, for the past five years. He has been proprietor of the Diamond Boiler Rink, on West 4th street, for the past two years, and was one of the main promoters of the Frederick Base Ball Clubs of 1908-’09 and ‘10; also the promoter and manager of the Diamond Basket Ball team that won the pennant for 1910.
