John T. Norwood

From History of Frederick County. p. 1093-1094:

John T. Norwood, farmer of Woodville District, Frederick County, Md., son of Lorenzo B. and Jennis (Flemming) Norwood, was born on a farm near Prospect Church, Woodville District, Frederick County, December 16, 1872.

Mr. Norwood’s grandparents were natives of Frederick County. His father, Lorenzo B. Norwood, was born near Kemptown, Frederick County, in 1851, His life from the time that he was nine years old, was spent on the farm, most of the time in Woodville District. He grew up on his father’s farm and, like other lads in the neighborhood, received education in the schools of his native district. After his marriage, Mr. Norwood began farming for himself on the Samuel Grove, now the Hood place, near Prospect Church. In 1880, Mr. Norwood purchased the home now owned by his son, John T. Norwood, where he spent seventeen years cultivating and improving his property. This place, consisting of 115 acres of fertile land, is situated in Woodville District, Frederick County. In 1897, Mr. Norwood removed to Mount Airy, Md., and opened a store which was connected with a hotel and livery stand. After his property was destroyed by fire, he removed to Baltimore, Md., and bought a property, No. 2140, West Baltimore St., where he opened a grocery, in which he does a thriving business. Lorenzo B. Norwood was married to Jennie Flemming. Their children are: 1, John T.; 2, Edward, of Hyattstown, Md.; 3, Nettie (Mrs. Vinton Baker).

John T. Norwood is the eldest son and eldest child of his parents. He received his education in the Prospect public school which he attended during the winter terms until he was twenty. While still a mere lad, he began assisting his father on the home farm, and remained at home, working for his father until the family removed to Mount Airy, in 1897. After his marriage, Mr. Norwood rented the homestead, a fine farm of 115 acres in Woodville District, on which he resides. He is an intelligent farmer and has greatly improved his property. Mr. Norwood is a stanch Democrat, interested in all that concerns the good of the community.

John T. Norwood was married, May 12, 1897, to Carrie, daughter of William Miller, of Unionville, Frederick County, Md. Their children are: 1, Aubrey E.; 2, Ella; 3, Virginia; 4, Clarence, died in infancy. Mr. Norwood and his wife are members of Prospect Methodist Episcopal Church.

Mr. Norwood is a member of Prosperity Lodge No. 58, I. O. O. P., Mount Airy, Md.; Modern Woodmen 11348, and the P. O. S. of A., No. 47, of Mount Airy, Md. Mr. Norwood and wife are members of Prospect M. E. Church, of Woodville District, Frederick County, Md.
