Luther Adolphus Horine
From History of Frederick County. p. 1091:
Luther Adolphus Horine, deceased, was a prominent farmer of Jefferson District. He was born June 1, 1857, son of Joel and Catherine (Koontz) Horine.
His youth was spent in attending the schools of the village of Jefferson, and learning the business of agriculture in a practical way, on his father’s farm. On March 9, 1882, he married Miss Anna V., daughter of John Harmon and Lucinda C. (Kefauver) Culler. After their marriage, they resided for five years in Jefferson, Mr. Horine being engaged in farming for different people of that vicinity. He at length bought a farm of 74 1-2 acres, lying very near Jefferson, on the Frederick turnpike. On this place he died, March 26, 1895; his burial place is in the Jefferson Cemetery. Mr. Horine was a member of the Lutheran Church, and served his congregation as deacon. Politically, he was a Republican, but never an office-holder. The children of Mr. and Mrs. Luther A. Horine are: Norma (Mrs. Henry Pennell), residing near Jefferson; and Millard H., at home.
Mrs. Horine’s father, Mr. John Harmon Culler, was born in 1837, on the old Culler homestead in Jefferson District. He received the usual education of a farmer’s son, in the public schools and on the farm. In March, 1861, he married Lucinda, daughter of Jacob and Lena (Coblentz) Kefauver. They made their home on the farm which was Mr. Culler’s birthplace, and which he bought after his father’s death. He died on this farm, October 7, 1898. He was a Lutheran, and served his church as elder. He was a Republican in politics. His widow now resides with Miss Annie Horine. Their children are: 1, Anna V. (Mrs. Luther A. Horine) ; 2, George, residing on the homestead, married Miss Rose Lewis; 3, John W., who lives near Church Hill, Frederick County, married Miss Sally Zimmerman; 4, Ella (Mrs. Henry Stockman), of Jefferson; 5, Jacob, farmer, of Jefferson District, married Miss Grace Keller; 6, Silas Harmon, who was educated for the ministry at Gettysburg, Pa., and ordained at Martinsburg, W. Va. He still officiates at his first and only charge, at Eeisterstown, Baltimore Co., Md.; 7, Dorsey Spangler, farmer, of Jefferson District, who married Miss Jane Ramsberger. One child, Mary E., died in her third year.
John Culler, the father of John Harmon Culler, was for many years engaged in mercantile business at Middletown, Md. He married Ann Maria Smith; both are now deceased. They had three children, as follows: 1, Anna, who died at the age of eighteen; 2, Charlotte (Mrs. John W. Long), deceased; 3, John Harmon.
