Preston S. Devilbiss

From History of Frederick County. p. 1118:

Preston S. Devilbiss, deceased, was a man of integrity and high character. He was born on a farm near Linganore, Frederick County, January 8, 1858, and was a son of John Hanson Devilbiss and his wife, Jane E. Walker, whose maiden name was Swadner.

The father of Mr. Devilbiss died when he was thirteen years old. He was educated in the schools of the country around and in Liberty, whither his mother removed after her husband’s death. He later attended Western Maryland College. He returned home and followed rural occupations. He died in August, 1887, and is buried at Central Church. He was a Democrat in his political views, and a member of the Methodist Protestant Church.

Mr. Devilbiss was married December 4, 1879, to Mary L. Buckey, of Mount Pleasant. She is a daughter of George William and Elizabeth (Rhoderick) Buckey. After the death of her husband, Mrs. Devilbiss went to Mount Pleasant and later took up her residence at Walkersville. Here she is now living. She is the mother of four children: Roger B., of Baltimore; Bayard and Preston S., also residents of Baltimore; Hilda, a teacher in the high school at Edinburg, Va.
