William Alexander Burger

William Alexander Burger, a well-known business man of Frederick, who is a photographer and conducts art galleries at No. 19, North Market street, was born in that city, December 17, 1856. He is a son of William H. and Annie M. (Drehr) Burger.
William H. Burger was born in Germany in 1827 and came to Frederick County, Md., about 1842. Some years later his father located in Frederick, having also emigrated, and lived there until his death. William H. Burger was engaged in the retail grocery business in Frederick for many years, when he retired. He was a Democrat in his political views, and a member of the Reformed Church. Mr. Burger was married to Annie M. Drehr, who died in 1905. They were the parents of nine children, five of whom reached maturity: Henry C, of Frederick; William Alexander; Charles Edward, also of Frederick; Annie Margaret, unmarried; and Annie Rosetta, who has also never married. Mr. Burger died in July, 1909.
William Alexander Burger, son of William H. and Annie M. (Drehr) Burger, was raised in his birthplace. He secured his education at St. John’s College and Frederick City Academy. In 1871, being then a very young man, Mr. Burger began to learn the trade of a photographer under J. Davis Byerly, with whom he remained for three years. In 1874, he went into business on his own account at his present stand. For the past thirty-five years he has been successful in his undertaking and is today the oldest photographer in. point of experience in Frederick City. He carries a large line of all kinds of gold leaf and fancy picture frames, and does every description of photograph and portrait work. Mr. Burger has built up a large trade, and he is noted for the excellent quality of his work. He is well known and is highly respected by all who know him.
In politics, Mr. Burger is a supporter of the Democracy. In religion, he is a member of the Evangelical Reformed Church of Frederick, in which he is very active.
Mr. Burger has never married, but has always made his home with his father and sisters at No. 407 East Patrick street, Frederick.
